Unifor Local 27 Retirees Chapter

Retired from the job, but not the fight

Union Election - Retirees' Chapter Meetings Continue on Hold

Posted on August 21, 2020

Fall is almost here and with it the time when we would normally start our monthly Retirees’ Chapter meetings back up. As I am sure everyone realizes, this will not be possible yet.

Canada has had some failures but overall has done a remarkable job of containing this horrible pandemic, but we are not out of the woods yet.

We think it is safe to say that until a vaccine is widely available resumption of the monthly meetings will not likely be in the cards. It will likely be early 2021 at the earliest and possibly not till spring before we are able to safely meet again.

In the meantime, the Local 27 executive has been having virtual meetings through Zoom and union business at the local has resumed with all the necessary precautions in place.

The local will be having elections to the executive positions shortly.

The election times are as follows:

Advance Poll: August 26th from 9 am to 4 pm at Local 27

Election Day: September 2nd from 9 am to 4 pm at Local 27

The polling station will be set up at the south entrance of Local 27, the entrance to the downstairs conference room (the old Union Station pub). Those voting will enter the entrance way where the registration table will be set up at ground level and vote one at a time to ensure social distancing. If the weather is fine, the registration table may be moved outside the entranceway. Either way, there will be no need for anyone to enter the building or climb any stairs.

Please bring photo ID with you

As per Ontario Legislation Safe distancing will be adhered to and Face masks should be worn.
