Unifor Local 27 Retirees Chapter

Retired from the job, but not the fight

Meeting Cancellation

Posted on April 29, 2022

To the members of Local 27 Retiree Chapter

Unfortunately, one of our main concerns has come to pass, the retirees' executive with the agreement and urging of the Local 27 executive has decided that the May 4th meeting must be postponed.

When we planned our May 4th get-together, it was with the caveat that if Covid numbers got any worse we would have to postpone the meeting until the fall. This has indeed been the case, the Covid numbers have gotten MUCH worse.

Premier Ford's decision to drop Covid mandates almost completely while also stopping 90% of testing has put Ontario, once again, in precarious shape.

While the numbers presented to us by the Ontario Government are looking bad, but not terrible. Most health experts believe the reported case count is only showing about 10% of actual infections.

I know this news will come as a blow to many of the chapter members who have been looking forward to seeing old friends again, but we must act responsibly when it comes to the safety and indeed lives of our fellow retirees.

We hope to reconvene in the fall, by which time we hope the numbers will be more favourable. Meanwhile, we will continue to send out updates and news as it comes available. We will, we hope, be able to contact the membership in early August with information on the first fall meeting.

If you are in contact with any members who do not have internet access, please pass this news along to them.

In solidarity and with hope to see you all again in the fall, we are

YOUR LOCAL 27 RETIREE CHAPTER EXECUTIVE
