Retired from the job, but not the fight

A Christmas Message from the Executive

A Christmas Message from the Executive

The executive of the Retiree Chapter would like to wish all members and spouses a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year as 2021 comes to a close. We all know how much the COVID pandemic has affected all our lives for almost two years now. For our chapter, it has meant no in-person meetings since early 2019, no Area Council picnic for two years or Christmas luncheon or bus to Port Elgin for the Labour Day parade. And lately, a new variant, the omicron variant of the virus, is spreading around the world and looks like it will push a return to normal life even further into the future. However, we are hopeful for a return to normality someday.

Looking ahead to next year, we need members to seriously think about putting their names forward to stand in elections for executive officers. We simply cannot survive without more involvement from the membership. The lunch program will have to change as well, as health problems mean that new people will have to step up to run the program or we will have to drastically reduce what we do after the meetings are adjourned.

You will note that we have attached a poster to this e-mail describing the Toy Drive that Local 27 is conducting this month. Our Retiree Chapter is unable to meet and conduct our own Drive so retirees who wish to help out will find details of how to help in the Local’s poster below. The chapter will, however, be making a contribution as in years past, to the organization Jenny’s Angels, who work throughout the year to help our city’s disadvantaged.

On another note, most of the GM retiree members should have received their information packages from the asrTrust detailing the upgraded benefits that begin Jan. 1st of next year (2022).

If you have not received a package within the next few weeks, we would suggest you contact Dawn Harlow at the asrTrust and request one.

This link will take you to a presentation by Gord Graham, going through the new plan changes.

Here are the figures for our two chapter funds:

Retired Worker Fund: $2367.28

Retirees’ Chapter Fund: $9,939.80

Our funds are looking very healthy as we have not drawn against them for going on two years

Once again, Best Wishes to all for a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy (and Safe!) New Year!
