Unifor Local 27 Retirees Chapter

Retired from the job, but not the fight

Retirees Chapter 2022 - May Meeting Plus Elections *UPDATE*

Posted on February 24, 2022

To all Unifor Local 27 Retirees' Chapter Members:

Hector has received permission from the Local 27 Executive to hold our first post-Covid chapter meeting on May 4th, 2022.
This meeting will have to be held at a different venue as the Union Hall is undergoing extensive renovations through the summer. A smaller room at the Portuguese Hall, 134 Falcon St, London has now been confirmed
We plan to offer a complimentary catered lunch for this meeting as a way of showing members we are pleased we are all able to gather again.
This meeting will be dependent upon Covid numbers continuing to drop, The Nationals permission and the Governments Covid status.
This will be our first in-person meeting in two years and we know everyone will likely be a bit nervous or apprehensive about getting together. It may be a while before anyone feels comfortable in a group situation.

We do ask that everyone continue to follow current guidelines and wisdom.

  • Please do not attend (yet) if you are not vaccinated and boosted
  • Please do not attend if you are feeling any of the common Covid symptoms
  • Please do not attend if you have been out of the country in the last two weeks
  • Please do not attend if you or someone in your family group has been exposed to Covid in the last two weeks
  • We will also ask members to obey any covid rules the rental venue has in place

We feel that the first few meetings will have relatively low attendance, this will allow members to have some space if they wish.
Masks may still be worn if required for personal comfort levels.
We are not sure at this time if we will be arranging for lunch at this first meeting.

Meeting Business:

We are planning to hold long-overdue elections at this meeting
Position for all Chapter Executive positions will be open, they are:

  • Chairperson
  • Vice-Chairperson
  • Financial Secretary
  • Recording Secretary
  • Sargent At Arms

Only Local 27 retiree members can stand for election.
Members who would like to stand should send their intentions to Local 27 in Writing.
Nomination to stand for an executive position shall also be accepted on the day of the May meeting.

Please Read:

We desperately need some support from the membership to continue to operate effectively. We therefore urge all members to consider donating a bit of their time and run for an executive position, our group cannot survive without more input from the membership.

Being a member of the executive does not require a great deal of time or energy, nor does it require attending any meeting other than our Chapter meeting. A member of the executive can set their own level of involvement.

We are also hoping to have one or two members volunteer to help with the lunch crew as Celia will not be able to continue in this position.

We all owe a huge debt of gratitude to Celia and Jessie for their labour of love in feeding our group for so many years, let's not forget to thank them when we see them!

Please give us some feedback on:

· Your intentions on attending the May meeting
· Your intention on helping the chapter by running for a position
· Your intention to help in the kitchen with lunches

We will send out updates as required

Hope to see you all in May!

The Executive
